The Hardie side of the family

The Muncy Side of the Family

Todd's maternal grandparents both emigrated from England. The story is that Todd's grandfather worked his way across as a "needle boy" on a grain ship.  After establishing himself in America and earning some money, he arranged passage for his fiancée to join him.  They are supposed to have come from the Isle of Wight in England, but not much is known beyond that.  Todd's mother was born in Queens Village on Long Island.

The Muncy family tree has been extremely well documented over the years, which made it much easier to put this information together.  Virtually every Muncy and Muncey in America descends from Todd's great (x9) grandfather Francis Muncy, who was born in England in 1631, and later crossed the Atlantic to Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts with his parents in 1653.  On December 6, 1659 he married Hannah Adams who was born in 1639 at Cambridge, Middlesex, Massachusetts.  She gave birth to a son John Muncey on October 24, 1660.  The family then moved to Brookhaven, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York and produced another son Samuel Muncey in 1661.

Todd's line, which descended from Samuel, settled in the Amityville/Babylon Township area of Suffolk County, Long Island and never left.  Todd was born in Amityville in 1953.  Since John had four (known) sons and Samuel had only one, it is not surprising that most Muncys who have contacted us about genealogy, are connected to John's side of the family.  Several larger lines of the family left Long Island and scattered throughout the country many generations ago.  There seem to be large clusters in West Virginia, Kentucky, Texas and California.

This section of our site contains a complete gedcom tree of over 700 cross-linked web pages representing the bulk of the descendants of Francis and Hannah.  The lowest branch on Todd's tree are his  paternal grandparents Donald E. Muncy (1900-1990) and Freda Bartholet (1895-1988).  To explore this tree, use any hyperlink on this page as a starting point and then click from one connected person to another.  To follow our branch all the way up, start with Donald and Freda and click on each husband's father nine times to get all the way back to Francis.

To search for a specific individual, go to the surname index, which will in turn link you to an alphabetical index of all included people with that surname.  Todd is very interested in forming a task force to reconcile the hundreds of different Francis Muncy I gedcom files that are available on the web.  The end result would be the creation a master file that would include all descendants shown on all versions of the tree.  Please send an email to: familytree<at>MuncyFamily.com if you would be interested in working on this project. Obviously you must change <at> to @.  This notation trick is necessary to prevent spammers from harvesting the email address.

The Hardie Side of the Family

The maternal side of Darlene's family tree is currently available on the Miskew family site.  The bad news is that Hardie is a very common name, making it very difficult to find useful gedcom files like the one used for the Muncy side of the family.  The good news is that Darlene's mother Laurine came from a large Ukrainian clan in the Edmonton, Alberta area.  Laurine did a lot of documented research herself.  The living Miskew Wasyl & Tecla Miskewdescendants (Laurine's maternal grandparents), who organized the reunion outside Edmonton we attended in July 2002, keep excellent records as well.  They all go back to Wasyl & Tekla Miskew, who immigrated to Canada from the Ukraine and established a sod house homestead near Edmonton, Alberta in 1902.  The biggest unanswered question at the reunion was how they got from Halifax, Nova Scotia, where ship records recorded their arrival, to Alberta.  This was quite a journey with four young children in 1902.  The Miskews, most of whom are still in the Edmonton area, maintain their own website based family tree.  Here are a few starting points within that large tree.

The next step is for us to obtain software for creating and editing gedcom files, so that all this information can be input, organized and converted to pages for our own website.  We will then look to integrate it with a wealth of old family photos Laurine left us.  If you have any additional information on the Miskew, Woytkiw or Hardie families, please let us know.  In the case of Hardie, it would be the family of William B Hardie Sr. and Jr. of Tacoma, Washington.
